    Flag of Schönau

This is one of the rare German municipal flags with more than two colours.

My image is based on that in the municipal website.

The flag is quarterly divided into violet (upper fly and lower hoist) and white. Every quarter is superimposed by a green bendlet sinister wavy.
    Meaning:
The existence of the flag is proven since 1604. The city wrote to Stefan Schwoon that the flag already existed since the 16th century. And it was heraldically based upon the colour of the Schönau company ("Fähnlein Schönau"), which had been accommodated here in 1621 during the 30-Years-War by the Catholic general Tilly. (The information is a bit confusing. Sounds to me that Tilly overtook an already existing flag as a military colour.)

The flag was approved/confirmed by the county administration on 3 February 1977, published in GABl 293/1978, after Schönau and Altneudorf had merged.

    Flag of Altneudorf

There is another full name of the small monastic town of Schönau/Odenwald: Schöenau bei Heidelberg.
The type of the modern residential area of Schönau Community is "one-street-village", that runs several kilometers in the narrow valley down, so that the higher part of it stays separated by a wide forest and mountains and calls Altneudorf (meaning "Old New Village"; a funny name comparing to "Young New Village", that administratively shared by two municipalities: Wilhelmsfeld, which has renamed it into "New Mill", originally Neumühle, and Schönau, that owns an autonomic status (own townhall etc.), which has further districts:
Unterdorf (Lower Village), Mitteldorf (Middle Village), Oberdorf (Higher Village) and Hauskorb or Vorstadt (House-Basket Suburb), geographically a part of Neumühle.
Now I'm sending the actual flag of Altneudorf.
