Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per fess into silver (= white) over blue. Above is a red half timber triangle. Below is a silver (= white) T-shaped St.Anthony's Cross.
Meaning:
The triangle is symbolizing the county's organization and municipal self-administration. It is also alluding to the many half-timbered houses in the region from the early 17th century. The T-cross displays the arms of Gießen University in counterchanged colours since 1736.  Gießen had become a state university already in 1607. The university was established by a donation of the Antonian Order, which had a base in Grünberg since 1242.
