Nördlingen Coat of Arms

Shield Or, an eagle Sable, crowned and armed Or and tongued Gules.
Meaning:
The main city seals between 1247 and 1415 and the probably oldest print from 1256 all displayed the imperial eagle without crown, which was introduced after 1445. A city seal from 1536 displayed the eagle with an inescutcheon upon his breast, charged with an initial "N". Images from 1550 displayed the inescutcheon parted of red and white, between 1803 and 1810 it was charged with the Bavarian Elector's Cap, a coronet. 1811 King Max I Joseph of Bayern granted different arms parted per fess, above Argent five lozenges Azure in fess, beneath Sable a star Or, derived from the interpretation of the city name as North Star. The original arms were restored in 1863. The tongue of the eagle had been golden at least until 1968. The flag colours are those of Free Imperial Cities.
