Anhalt City Colours 1896

In 1896 city colours (German: Stadtfarben) were granted to cities in Anhalt. Neither the words "flag" or "banner" are mentioned within the approval, but hoisting as flags might be one possible purpose as well as cockades or all kinds of bicolour draping on festivities and special occasions. The Duchy of Anhalt had three colours and thus a tricolour as flag. All cities mentioned in source have in common that for them only two colours had been granted. The colours were "granted by Ducal Ministry of State with highest approval of his Highness Duke Friedrich I of Anhalt". The ratio of the images has been chosen arbitrarily. Special thanks to Thomas Rystau, who provided a microfiche of the approval.
