French blazon describes the small red flag as a gonfalon.
Pascal Gross, 24 November 2000
It may be called a gonfalon in the original blazon, but it would be simply a flag on an English blazon
(not a pennant, as it does not have a tapering end).
Santiago Dotor, 28 November 2000
Željko simply calls it a "flag" which it undoubtedly is and which is the safe option, whilst
we are also informed that the French blazon names it a "gonfanon/gonfalon" which we all know is a
type of Medieval flag that could also describe it. However, I have a third option and that is the Medieval
term "lance pennon".

Since such a "pennon" could be either swallow-tailed or square-ended according to rank this would
seem to fit the bill. Thus the blazon would become:

"Azure on a chief Or a cross pattée couped of the First and overall a lance in bend Argent with a
pennon Gules".
