The arms of Saint-Étienne-des-Grès are "Or three fesses azure surrounded by three rocks sable 2 and 1. The shield surrounded by two branches of maple proper. Beneath the shield a scroll or inscribed 'LA VALEUR CROÎT SOUS L'OBSTACLE' ".
The three fesses represent the parish of Trois-Rivières (lit., Three Rivers), once Saint-Étienne's mother parish.
The rocks made of three stones recall St. Stephen' martyrdom. They also represent the "Grès" epithet, in French, "sandstone". The village was named for the rocky environment.
The motto, "Value Grows Under Obstacle", is a reference to the rocks featured on the shield.
