Municipality

The municipality of Carleton-sur-Mer (4,029 inhabitants in 2018; 24,430 ha) is located in Gaspésie, along the Baie des Chaleurs, 70 km east of Avignon. The municipality was known until 2005 as Carleton-Saint-Omer, established on 4 October 2000 as the merger of the town of Carleton (est. in 1972 as the merger of the cantons of Carleton and Carleton-sur-Mer) and of the parish of Saint-Omer.
