The municipality of Mondaí (11,889 inhabitants in 2020; 20,215 ha) is located
on the border with Rio Grande do Sul, 700 km west of Florianópolis.
Mondaí was established on 20 May 1922, as Porto Feliz, during the early stage of
the colonization of Santa Catarina Far West. Hermann Faulhaber, director of
Empresa Chapecó-Peperi Ltda, navigated on river Uruguai, at the time the only
way of communication, on a small boat owned by Camillo Picoli. The other members
of the expedition were Jacob Schüler and Friedrich Forbrig, from New-Württemberg
(now, Pananbi), land surveyor Victor Alberto Webering, and merchant Francisco
Martins, from Palmeira das Missões. Advized by Ernesto Scherer, a hunter who
lived alone in a deserted ranch at the confluence of Tapirs River and Uruguai,
Faulhaber's team took another two days to delimitate the future colony.
Faulhaber obtained the support of the powerful Zeca Vacariano by asking him to
build roads within the colony, in exchange of two plots of land located close to
his house. Zeca subsequently controlled timber trade in the area and was thought
to have planned the attack of the São Paulo - Rio Grande railway.
Faulhaber
hired experienced engineer Webering, from Palmeira das Missões, who had worked
with successful colonizer Frederico Westphelen, to design 200 to 300 plots
around the colony's seat.

The flag and arms of Mondaí are prescribed by Municipal Law No. 682
promulgated on 5 August 1970.
The arms were designed by Frederico Carlos
Kreiser, winner of a public contest.
The key is a symbol of the colonization
of Santa Catarina Far West from Rio Grande do Sul, recalling that Mondaí was the
gate to Santa Catarina Far West.
The lime and the lime tree recall the
potential for citrus cultivation in the municipality.
The man holding an axe
is a symbol of labor, while the woman is a symbol of culture, represented in a
religious and dedicated posture.
River Uruguai represents the border between
Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina.

The flag of the AAMF is red with an off-centered white-blue-white cross
superimposed in the center with the club's emblem placed on a white disc.
