Municipality

The municipality of Miraguaí (4,978 inhabitants in 2016; 13,043 ha) is located 370 km north-west of Porto Alegre.

Miraguaí was established as Gramado de Serra, part of Tenente Portela.
The municipality of Miraguaí was established on 15 December 1965. The new municipality's namesake is the Caingangue cacique who settled the region.
