Description of the flag

The flag is official since February 9, 2004.
The flag consists of three horizontal stripes, of equal size, joined together, with the colors: Blue, Ivory and Green.

The upper stripe, colored Blue, symbolizes the waters of the seas and rivers of the jurisdiction; On the left is a Miter that represents the dignity of the bishopric held by the eponymous Monsignor Francisco José Iturriza Guillen in the Diocese of Coro for half a century, plus three stars that represent the Parishes of the Municipality.

The central strip is ivory in color, which includes the sands and salt flats that cover the continental and island beaches, in the middle of this band a resplendent Sun is sighted with a Pink Flamingo inside, which identify the light that illuminates towards a better future and the birds that inhabit this territory.

The lower strip is green and represents the richness of the Flora.
