In the Annual Town Election held on March 8, 2022, Gilford NH voted in favor
of an article adopting the Guilford Courthouse Flag as its first official flag.
Article 26 on the ballot was as follows:
"Shall the Town vote to adopt the
Guilford Courthouse Flag as the official Town Flag base upon its traditional and
long-standing status as the unofficial Town Flag; in recognition of its
historical significance as the banner flown during the Revolutionary War Battle
of Guilford Courthouse, (March 15, 1781); whereupon a battle-weary Lieutenant
Lemuel Mason put forth the proposed name for the new Town of Gilford, New
Hampshire, (circa 1812), as a testament of said battle in which he fought with
honor and distinction?"
