The release stated:

While recovering from a bone marrow transplant in late 2017 and early 2018, Josh Buell decided that his hometown of Lake Saint Louis needed a flag. The City has been flying a flag which is the City's logo on a white background. This flag was never formally adopted as the official City flag, and is not in keeping with the five design principles recommended by the North American Vexillological Association.

Being a bit of a vexillologist (a person who studies flags) himself, Josh decided that his hometown needed a flag that reflected what was special about lake Saint Louis, while adhering to these principles. He took to designing a new flag, one that he felt met these goals. This is what he came up with, and what the design represents.

  • The blue and green colors are taken from the City's existing logo.
  • The two blue blocks represent the two main lakes (Lake Saint Louis and Lake Sainte Louise) in the city.
  • The green blocks represent the many green spaces in the city, and Lake Saint Louis' history as a Tree City.
  • The white lines are a reminder that the City of Lake Saint Louis is near the crossroads of two interstate highways.
  • The fleur-de-lis has ties to the City of Saint Louis and the French background of the early City, as well as to Lake Saint Louis' founders' obvious nod to that French background (note the many French street names, especially the older streets).

According to the city council packet on the day of adoption, Lake Saint Louis had previously used an unofficial logo-based flag. The Facebook page shows only a small picture of it.
