Description of the flag

Flag of Oglethorpe County, Georgia (b/w version)
Source: Newsletter of Historic Oglethorpe County, September 1991.

The Oglethorpe County flag was sponsored and designed by the Historic Oglethorpe, Inc., organization with drawings by Dr. Lester Walker. The flag depicts James Edward Oglethorpe, for whom the county is named, inside an outline of the county's boundaries; the founding date of the county, 1793; the unique and historic Oglethorpe County courthouse; Shaking Rock, a natural phenomenon in a Lexington park; the Lexington Presbyterian Church; and a hummingbird, a species which frequents the county in the spring and summer.
