About the flag

Mikhail Revnivtsev reported today to RussoVex the brand new flag of the city of Syktyvkar: http://komiinform.ru/news/57781/

According to Ms.Tatyana Saladina, deputy chairwoman of the Syktyvkar City Soviet, a special commission took under consideration 40 designs submitted by the city's inhabitants, mostly the local schoolchildren. The commission was unable to choose the winner as the designs didn't follow the Russian heraldic tradition. The commission hired then an independent expert, chairman of the Komi regional unit of the Union of Russian Heraldists - Mr.Igor Knyazev. The commission approved his proposal of two horizontal bands, upper-blue and lower -green with the city's coat of arms in the center or at the edge: spruce, bear and silver star in the shape of "shondiban" - Komi national ornament.

The good image of Syktyvkar's coat of arms is provided by city's English Wikipedia page and even better image appears at geraldika's website.
