Coat of arms

Shield Or, a pale wavy Azure charged with a pallet wavy Argent, at dexter an electric flash Gules, at sinister a millstone Sable garnished Argent. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "ÁGUA DE ALTO".
Meaning:
The commune's name has its origin in the banks of a local creek, falling down to the beach of Degredo. The pale is representing the falling water. The flash is alluding to the fact, that the first power station of the Açores was erected in 1900 in Agua de Alto. The millstone is alluding to the many local watermills, supplied by the power station, that had been used for grinding wheat.
