Coat of arms

Shield Or with base wavy of Vert and Argent, crowned by a boat Gules lined Argent, above a 7-point star Azure, both surrounded by a rainbow Proper. In chief two inescutcheons Azure charged with five plates set in quincunx. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials: "BUARCOS".
Meaning:
The rainbow is reflecting to the commune's name, having its origin in "Bunhos" and "Arcos", materials for dwelling of the very first local inhabitants. The boat is representing fishing, an economic activity since the Middle Ages. The star is an attribute of Our Lady of the Waves. The quinas (inescutcheons) are taken from the town's oldest arms.
