Placed under Polish administration in 1945 in accordance with Potsdam
agreement. Expelled German population was replaced with Ukrainians from
South Eastern Poland, removed to deprive the nationalist and anti-communist
Ukrainian partizans (UPA) their support base.
City rights since 1962.
Arms and flag adopted on September 28, 2007 (resolution # XIII/87/07).
There is no explanation of the symbols available, but the Arms underscore the agricultural character of the commune and the role of the railroad junction the town plays.
