Menterwolde municipality

Number of inhabitants (1 Jan 2003): 12.702; area: 81,62 km². Settlements: Muntendam (seat), Borgercompagnie (part), Meeden, Noordbroek, Tripscompagnie, Zuidbroek.
Menterwolde was formed by the merger on 1 Jan 1990 of the old municipalities of Noordbroek, Zuidbroek, Oosterbroek, Meeden and Muntendam; some 30 km east of Groningen city.
The Mente or Munte was an old canal for the old peat-digging in Groningen, from Muntendam to Termunten. It is now an agricultural region.
The flag was adopted 13 Jun 1991; description: "Three equally wide horizontal stripes green - yellow - green, with on the yellow stripe towards the hoist a blue fleur-de-lis".

Muntendam former municipality

Flagdescription: Two equally wide horizontal stripes of yellow and green.
This flag was adopted by municipal resolution on 29 Oct 1929; at the same time it was established that the colors green and yellow were to be the municipal colors of Muntendam. The colors were derived from the municipal arms.
