Mildam village flag

Mildam (Frisian: Mildaam) is a village in Heerenveen municipality in Fryslân province.
It adopted in 2003 a flag and coat of arms, designed by the Fryske Rie foar Heraldyk.
At the Mildam website is a short description with images:
The colors and symbols refer to Mildam. A blue flag with a wavy bar, which symbolizes the Tjonger river; the blue interruprtion is for the bridge or dam over the Tjonger; the sandy soil and oak trees are reflected in the yellow oak-leaf.
In the arms is also a French fleur-de-lis, which was also present in the arms of the old grietenij (municipality) of Schoterland, to which Mildam formerly belonged.

Mildam = middle dam (in the Tjonger); its church dates from 1726 and has a bell-cage. In the region Mildamsters are known for "Mildaamster hier" very bright-blond hair, or "wyt hier" white hair.
Nicknames: "Blêddefeijers" - leaf-wipers; along the old road, the Schoterlandseweg from Heerenveen to Donkerbroek, there were a lot of trees with a lot of leaves, and the Mildaamsters had the sorry duty to wipe them away (just like the inhabitants of the Belgian village of Bouwel in the municipality of Grobbendonk, who used the leaves in the stables, the Bouwelers were known as "Bladerendabbers").
Mildaamsters were also known as "Molkenbakken" - biscuits with sugared milk.
