It is unclear who designed the municipal coat of arms, but it is known it began being used by 2017 under the term of Municipal President Armando Delgadillo Ruvalcaba (2016-2018). The border reads NOCHISTLAN at the top; to the bottom ZACATECAS; to its sides, LUGAR DE GRANJA [Place of Farm]. Serving as the crest is a Caxcán Indian head, having swords and spears behind him. His mantling reads Aschanquema Tehual Nehual (Until your death or my own), a Caxcán battle cry. To the upper-left of the inner section, an image of the Blessed Virgin Mary for faith. To the upper-right, the San Francisco de Asís church. To the center-left, an image of a cactus for the environment. To the center-right, a pumpkin, peas, peppers, and cob of corn for agriculture. The lower section depicts the Las Tuzas dam, with a grassland filled with cacti and mountains as the background.

It is known that this municipal coat of arms started being used under the term of Municipal President Moisés Ornelas (2001-2004) until the adoption of the new coat of arms in 2017. Divided into four quadrants with the form of an open book for education, having at the top a knight's helmet for the Spanish era with lambrequin leaves to its sides. Above, the motto ASHCANQUEMA TEHUAL NEHUAL; a Caxcán battle cry (Until your death or my own!) Below, a ribbon reads PRIMERA GUADALAJARA HOY NOCHISTLAN [First Guadalajara, today Nochistlan] as Guadalajara was founded here originally. The upper-left section depicts a Caxcán Indian warrior bearing a shield and weapon. To the upper-right, the San Francisco church and a roaring cannon. To the lower-left, an image of a head of cattle, squash, and cob of corn; symbolizing cattle-raising and agriculture. To the lower-left, the Las Tuzas Dam.

The first coat of arms of Nochistlán was adopted during the term of Municipal President Francisco Blanco Dueñas (1986-1988). It was designed by David Andrade Bautista, who was asked by the council to design it. The border is red, and bears the motto ASHCANQUEMA TEHUAL NEHUAL [Until your death or my own]; a Caxcán Indian battle cry. The upper-left section depicts the San Francisco de Asís church, the upper-right a Caxcán Indian warrior bearing a spear. The lower section depicts a stream through a ploughed valley leading to the Las Tuzas dam and mountains as its background, having to the left a corn plant and enveloping the edges a cactus for its environment.
