Coat of arms of Mérida
[esp91]
by Juan Manuel Gabino Villascán, 13 January 2005.

The flag of Mérida is white with the municipality's arms in the center. The coat of arms is:

...a Spanish shield, party per pale. On azur, castle of gold, towered, masoned of sable, and "cleared" of gules. On sinople, a lion rampant of gold, "lampasse" of gules and armed of the same. The whole over a mantling with an open royal crown at the top. The badge Muy Noble Y Muy Leal Ciudad de Merida (Most Noble and Most Loyal City of Merida) of sable on gold.

    Proposal 1

Mérida proposal standard 1
by Juan Manuel Gabino Villascán, January 11, 2005.
Based on [esp91]

"Let's play with different variants to establish, as better as possible, a new standard for the municipality, which could be employed, from now on, by the Council of the "Muy Noble y Muy Leal Ciudad de Mérida de Yucatán". The shortest way to make such a standard, would be by depicting exactly the whole City's coat of arms within a plain-white square field as accustomed to municipal standards or pennants. Such a standard is, as general usage, fimbriated either in gold or any of the other colors of the arms".

    Proposal 2

Mérida proposal standard 2
by Juan Manuel Gabino Villascán, January 11, 2005.
Based on [esp91]

"Another variant, would simply be, using a field divided into to equal vertical stripes, the one near the hoist in green charged with the fortress, and the second one in green charged, in turn, with the golden lion rampant, near the lower edge and centered the badge. The standard would be also fimbriated in gold."

    Proposal 3

Mérida proposal standard 3
by Juan Manuel Gabino Villascán, January 11, 2005.
Based on [esp91]

"A third possible version, would be with a field party per pale after the coat of arms, with fortress and lion, and a bordered in gold bearing the badge in capital black letters. The whole also fimbriated in blue.
Let's hope these proposals be useful, in any moment, in order to the Meridan Council fly again the municipality standard in official events, as the Yucatán state government currently does with the flag of the state bearing the Yucatán coat of arms".
