Addu (33,694 inhabitants in 2013), a city island, was established in October 2017 following a referendum.
According to official results, of 26,676 people who participated in the referendum, 8,402 voted in favor of the proposal while 16,695 voted against it. However, of the six islands in Addu Atoll where voting took place, citizens of Hithadhoo, Maradhoo, Maradhoo-Feydhoo and Hulhudhoo endorsed the proposal, while islanders of Feydhoo and Meedhoo rejected it.

Fuvahmulah (13,037 inh.; 494 ha), administratively part of Gnaviyani Atoll and territorially equivalent to it, is the Maldives' third most populated town, behind Malé and Addu.
The flag of Fuvahmulah is white with the graphic element of the town's logo (photo, photo).
