About

"朝日新聞" (English: morning sun newspaper, romanized Asahi Shimbun) is one of the four largest newspapers in Japan, second in circulation. Founded on January 25, 1879 1879, it is also one of the oldest newspapers in Japan and Asia, and is considered a newspaper of record for Japan. The name "Asahi" was suggested by "津田 貞" (English: Tadashi Tsuda) who was the first editor-in-chief by pointing out the fact of a "毎朝" (English: every morning) newspaper.
