In the 1902 edition of Lloyd’s Register of Yachts the shield is white and the lion is red. The border of the shield, however, is yellow. This is still the case in 1927, which suggest it's not just a mistake made when the club was first included. In 1937, the club has disappeared from the register.

When in 2000 the current website is archived for the first time, it shows a similar burgee, but now the shield has a white border. I'm tempted to say that 1900 was the first time their burgee was shown, and it wasn't shown entirely correct that time. By 1902, the problem would then have been corrected.

I also wonder whether there really was such sailing club in 1937 and after. Could the current club be more recent?

Heraldic Seal of Saltash

[Saltash Sailing Club] image by Peter Edwards, 3 August 2018

"Saltash does not have an official coat of arms, but has used a heraldic seal for many centuries. The seal shows the arms of the ancient Earls of Cornwall. The red crowned lion is also found in the arms of the Devon county Council. The black border with gold bezants is a familiar symbol of Corn well. The Earls of Cornwall were Lords of Saltash. The shield is placed between two ostrich feathers and ensigned by a crown, which are taken from the arms of the Duchy of Cornwall.”
