Presentation of Saint-Martin-de-Ré

The municipality of Saint-Martin-de-Ré (3,366 inhabitants in 2017; 470 ha) is located on the northern coast of Ré island. The island's main port, Saint-Martin was fortified by Vauban in 1681. The old city, within the walls of the citadel, was inscribed in 2008 to the World Heritage List by ,UNESCO along with 11 others fortifications designed by Vauban across France.
