Presentation of Liceras

The municipality of Liceras (The municipality of Liceras (57 inhabitants in 2015; 2,469 ha; municipal website) is located 100 south-west of Soria.

Liceras emerged around a fortified tower (atalaya), erected in the 10th century by the Muslims to watch the border with the Christian states. The restored tower was inaugurated on 26 May 2012.
After the Christian reconquest, Liceras was divided into three boroughs, Liceras de Fortún, Liceras de Fortunez, and Liceras de Torre Montejo.

Symbols of Liceras

The flag and arms of Liceras are prescribed by an Agreement adopted on 31 May 2016 by the Municipal Council, signed on 24 August 2016 by the Mayor and published on 28 September 2016 in the official gazette of Castilla y León, No. 188, pp. 42,640-42,641 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:

Flag: Three vertical stripes of similar proportions, the lateral stripes, dark blue, the central stripe, celestial blue. Charged in the center with the coat of arms.
Coat of arms: Azure an atalaya or port and windows sable three five-pointed stars or. Grafted argent six spikes proper. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown open.

The proposed symbols were validated by the Chronicler of Castilla y León, who required the atalaya to be or and the spikes proper.
The symbols were inaugurated on 6 August 2016 (photos).

The atalaya erected in the 10th century represents the village's history.
The three stars represent the three boroughs united to form the village of Liceras.
The spikes represent labour and the main source of income for the municipality.
