Presentation of Valdecaballeros

The municipality of Valdecaballeros (1,077 inhabitants in 2019; 9,010 ha; municipal website) is located 200 km north-east of Badajoz and 30 km north-west of Herrera del Duque.

Valdecaballeros was re-settled after the Christian reconquest by Sancho IV, who granted on 15 May 1290 three dehesas to Talavera, together with Alía and Castilblanco.
On 23 June 1369, Henry II transferred to Gómez Manrique the town of Talavera and its dependencies. Alía, Castilblanco and Valdecaballeros formed the parish of Alía. Valdecaballeros was granted the status of villa on 31 January 1556.
