The bezants are representing the eight municipalities of Holtriem. They are also alluding to the golden bowls of Terheide, which had been found in 1872. The mill is alluding to the many windmills, which had been in the area in the past. The bars wavy are representing a local lake called Ewiges Meer (literally: eternal sea). The green colour is symbolising nature and agriculture.
