Frankenthal Coat of Arms

Shield Sable a lion rampant Or, crowned armed and tongued Gules, holding an orb Or by his risen dexter forepaw and an inescutcheon Gules charged with triangular pyramid Or by his sinister forepaw.
Meaning:
The arms are based on the oldest known seal of the city from the 16th century. Frankenthal received city rights in 1573 from Palatine Johann Casimir of Rhine. The lion and the orb are derived from the arms of the Palatine Electorate. The inescutcheon with the pyramide symbolises the three main religious groups at the time, the Dutch, Walloon and German population groups.
