TrappstadtTrappstadt Coat of Arms

Shield Argent a bustard statant Sable, armed Or) and Argent holding a grain ear Or by his beak, base Azure charged with a fess wavy Argent.
The oldest seal probably was made in 1656, when the Römhild district became a community of joint ownership (German: Ganerbschaft) of 12 parties. Trappstadt gained the rights of a market town in 1778. All local seals until the late 18th century displayed the punning bustard (German: Trappe, Latin: Otis tarda). The beak is silver and the claws are golden. The seal from the 18th century displayed the bird in a Baroque cartouche crested by a coronet as symbol of the joint ownership. The bird had been on top of a mount. Later on top of a triplemount, representing the local hills Höhberg, Spanshügel and Altenburg. Between 1818 and 1836 the town had no permission to use proper seals. The pattern changed in details during the last two centuries. Otto Hupp (1925) displayed the bird in proper colour on a white shield. The mount was replaced by the base with fess wavy in 1978, when Alsleben was incorporated into Trappstadt.
