The arms are based on a municipal seal from 1510. The bishop is alluding to the Chapter of Würzburg, which had been the local ruler since the 13th century. In the 17th century the village was acquired by the Bishopric of Würzburg. The wall is alluding to the local fortification. Remains are still existing.
