Winkelhaid Coat of Arms

Shield Gules, on top of a mount issuant Vert a beehive Or in chief a cross staff and an angle in saltire both Argent.
Meaning:
The angle (German: Winkel) is punning and alluding to the meaning of the municipality's name, which is "in the angle of the heather". The beehive is alluding to the Zeidler kin, beekeepers of the Free Imperial City of Nürnberg. The kin owned estates and breeded bees in the Lorenzer Reichswald, a local forest belonging to Nürnberg. The cross staff is the attribute of St. John, patron saint of the church of Penzenhofen, which merged with Winkelhaid in 1972. The church had been the chapel of the theological department of Altdorf University. Many important clergymen gave their first services here. The university existed since the 17th century and was dissolved in 1809.
