Schopfheim Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale, at dexter Or a bend Gules, at sinister Azure an angel Argent, holding a sword Gules in his right hand and a pair of scales Gules in his left hand.
Meaning:
Although the settlement had been established as a city around 1250, the right to use a proper seal was granted in 1529 by Margrave Ernst of Baden-Durlach. Since then all local seals and arms displayed the current pattern. The dexter half displays the arms of Baden, the sinister half St. Michael, the local patron saint, recognisable by his attributes sword and scales. The parish church had been first mentioned in 1130. A few seals of the 19th century omitted the angel, others displayed him on top of a hill. The tinctures were fixed in 1964.
