Asperg Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a golden (= yellow) shield on a green triple mount stands an aspen tree of the same colour, flanked by two upright, black attires.
Meaning:
Asperg, located near a castle of the Palatine Counts of Tübingen, gained city rights already in 1310, was downgraded to a market town in 1718, and gained city rights again in 1785. The first known seal dates from 1560 and shows an aspen, a canting element, above two attires, taken from the arms of Württemberg. In 1693 the triple mount was added. In addition to this, 17th and 18th century seals showed some stars around the tree. The present arms are used since the 19th century, based upon the depiction given in Gadner's forest atlas (1596).

The banner was adopted in 1933. The colours of the sheet are the main colours of the coat of arms.
