Prichsenstadt Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale, at dexter Azure a tower Argent, at sinister Gules, a double queued lion rampant Argent, crowned and armed Or, supporting the tower by his forepaws.
Meaning:
Tower and lion appeared on the first seal from the early 14th century. Prichsenstadt gained city rights in 1367, when it was pawned to the Bohemian kings. Thus the lion is assumed to be that one of Bohemia. A shield with that pattern was displayed without changes in five local seals until 1818. As symbols of other rulers had been unwanted in Bavarian arms after 1815, the lion was omitted in 1819 but restored in 1837. Otto Hupp (1925) and Klemens Stadler (1968) displayed the arms in a red shield and the tower with a blue roof. According to the city webpage the city introduced the current version in the 1970ies without approval.
