Genthin Coat of Arms

Shield Gules with bordure Or, St. Mary Argent dressed and crowned Or, holding the Holy Infant Argent in her right arm.
Meaning:
The oldest depiction of St. Mary and Child, already displaying St. Mary wearing a tunic and without nimbus, could be found on a seal from 1690. Probably the oldest seals and thus also the ams were approved by the Archbishopric of Magdeburg, to which the city historically belonged.
The current arms were also used in times of the German Democratic Republic.

The current arms were adopted by the local council on 29 July 1971 and approved by district governor (Regierungspräsident) of Magdeburg on 15 September 1995. Flag and banner were approved by district governor (Regierungspräsident) of Magdeburg on 23 March 1998.
