Großmehring Coat of Arms

Shield Azure an eagle Or nimbed Argent, chief wavy Argent charged with a fess wavy Azure.
Meaning:
Chief and fess wavy are symbolising the Donau River (English: Danube) and the historic and economic importance of the local ford, already mentioned in the Song of the Nibelungs. The ford was also crossed by the Franconian army, led by Karl Martell, in the 8th century. The eagle is an attribute of St. John the Evangelist and taken from the arms of the Benedictine Nunnery of Neuburg upon Donau. The nunnery had been an important manorial lord between 1007 and 1542.
