Description

Erding is the county capital (Kreisstadt) of Landkreis Erding. The arms (blazon: Argent, a siister bendyploughshare Azure) is used in seals since the late 13th century. The flag was adopted 6th November 1963 and readopted 4th August 1978. It shows stripes of white-blue-white with the arms. At first sight, from the arms a simple white-blue bicolour would have been appropriate for Erding. However, this is forbidden for municipal flags in Bavaria, as this is already the Bavarian flag. Thus the white has been added as a third stripe.

There are three variants of the flag: the first is the usual Banner [hanging flag], the second has a Schwenkel and the third is a decorative cloth.

Variant with Schwenkel

The second variant is a very interesting and special flag. It is a square white flag with the arms, with at the top of the flag a Schwenkel divided white over blue. These flags are used at the town hall in oblique flagpoles. It was not possible to find out when this variant was designed or by whom.

Decorative Cloth Variant

The third variant is actually no proper flag but a decorative cloth wider than high that is hung from the windows of the town hall. It is a horizontal triband white-blue-white with the arms (the plough share in a metallic grey, not in blue, though).
