It is a red-yellow vertical bicolour with coat of arms shifted to the top.

The shield is golden, a red sinister facing griffin, his right claw leaning on top of an inescutcheon. The inescutcheon is parted per pale into silver and black and charged with an eagle in counterchanged colours.
No historical context could be found, but the ensemble was in use on former seals in the 20th century and thus kept.

Niederorschel had 3095 inhabitants in 2015 and covers 19.7 km². The municipality was first mentioned in 1221. Niederorschel is seat oft he VG Eichsfelder Kessel.
