Schmidmühlen Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale, at dexter Argent a forging hammer Sable in pale, at sinister Gules a demi millwheel Or couped per pale.
Meaning:
The settlement had been already a market town and seat of a district since 1270 due to smelting of ore. The current pattern appeared first in 1311 on the personal seal of Reimbot of Smidmueln. The pattern was adopted later by the town and is known by prints since 1460. The tinctures are known by a letter of indulgence from 1489 for the local parish church dedicated to St. Giles. The canting pattern remained basically the same through the centuries.

The banner is in use without approval. The arms are traditional and in use since the 15th century.
