Description of banner:
It is a white - blue - white vertical triband with ratio 1:3:1. The coat of arms is shifted to the top.

Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a silver (=white shield) is St.John, the Evangelist, dressed in a blue robe over a silver (=white) shirt. He holds a golden (=yellow) goblet, upon which is a blue snake, in his right hand.
Meaning:
According to source St.John was the patron saint of Sundern, in this form he appeared already on a seal of the so called "Sundern Freedom" in the "Arnsberg book of arms".

The banner was approved by Regierungspräsident Arnsberg on 26 June 1978, a similar coat of arms had been approved by the minister of interior of Northrhine-Westphalia on 13 November 1967.
