The municipality

The town of Candiac (22,997 inhabitants in 2021; 1,759 ha) is located on the right bank of the Saint-Lawrence, 20 km south of Montreal.

Candiac was established by a Special Law voted on 31 January 1957 by the Legislative Assembly of Quebec. The town was formed of plots located on ancient farms, no longer exploited for most of them, acquired by the Candiac Development Corporation, subsequently Développements urbains Candiac. The president of the company and first Mayor of Candiac, Jean Leman, named the new town for castle Candiac, a mnor located near Nîmes, in France, where Louis-Joseph de Saint-Véran, Marquis de Montcalm was born in 1712. One of the Quebec national heroes, Montcalm was killed in 1759 during the battle of the Plains of Abraham.

Description of the flag

Flag is a logo on white.
Dave Fowler, 17 February 2022

Candiac owns 15,000 trees forming a urban forest. The logo evokes two different models of houses under three majestic trees ["ma ville sous les arbres", "my town under the tree"] shaped like the leaf of the bur oak (Quercus macrocarpus Michx), the town's emblematic tree. The orange shades recall the autumn landscapes, when streets turn into a charming display of warm colors. To summarize, the logo symbolizes harmony between Quebec's natural heritage and territorial urbanization.
