The symbols, designed by Lauro Ribeiro Escobar, are prescribed by Municipal Law No. 384. The flag is horizontally divided blue-white-green with a white triangle placed along the hoist and charged with the municipal coat of arms.

The coat of arms is "Argent a Cross of the Order of Christ a chief azure two keys or and argent per saltire a base vert a fess wavy argent. The shield surmounted by a municipal crown argent ports sable. The shield supported dexter by a plant of maize and sinister by a plant of cotton the two proper. Beneath the shield a scroll azure supporting rice panicles and inscribed with the municipality's name in letters argent".

The Iberian shield represents the Portuguese colonizers of Brazil. Argent is a symbol of felicity, frankness, integrity and friendship. The Greek [sic] cross is a traditional symbol of the Portuguese nation in the colonial period, representing religion. Azure is a symbol of justice, nobleness, virtue, dignity and loyalty. The keys are the attributes of St. Peter, the municipality's patron saint, and a symbol of rest, tranquillity, security and guard. Vert is a symbol of hope, courtesy, civility, liberty, joy, friendship and abundance, referring to the fertile lands of the region that attracted the pioneers. The fess wavy represents the water resources of the municipality. The mural crown is a symbol of political emancipation; the open gates represent hospitality. Maize, cotton and rice highlight the fertility of the soil.
