The Flag

In the photograph (date unknown) the blue and yellow of the Governor-General's flag seem to be the standard shade and the blue and yellow of the national flag of the same shade.
David Prothero, 24 February 2001

The photo looks impressive as a proof. Only, the photographs can be rather deceptive regarding the colours - the flag in background is distant enough to have their colours distorted by "blue distance effect". However, the GG flag of Barbados is already exceptional by it's ratio - so maybe if it is coloured differently would not be surprise.
An other issue I noticed on the photo - it seems that the ribbon with the country name is considerably smaller then it is shown in our sources.

It is only a newspaper cutting and perhaps the colours have been adjusted to conform to a limited palette.

According to Politikens Flagbook (translated): "Barbados also has a Governor Banner, This is the same flag, as the Governor for St. Lucia uses, except, that the name in the scroll under the king's crown is 'Barbados'." However, we have the Governor (General?) Flag for Barbados as 3:4, and that of St. Lucia 1:2. Is this an additional difference, or are they really both 1:2?
Peter Hans van den Muijzenberg, 7 October 2001

A postcard of government house shows a blue flag in what appears to be 1:2.

Barbados is going to become a republic at the end of November 2021 - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-58993728. This flag will then become obsolete.

Short flag (3:4)

(3:4) image by Željko Heimer, 24 February 2001

Governor-General. (3:4) - The flag in the usual pattern for governor-generals, but in unusual ratio. [smi80] have it 3:4~, Album 2000 [pay00] gives it as pure 3:4. I kind of hope that the answer to the question would also solve question why. The image in Album 2000 [pay00] have the ribbon with country name made so that the ends looks like "folding out" towards the observer, while the usual pattern is that they fold "backwards". Such is shown e.g. in [smi80]. Is this maybe an error in drawing in Album, or there is some further info?

Flag (3:5 dimension)

This flag for the Governor General of Barbados is given in the unconfirmed belief that the flag is in 3:5.
