The coat of arms was granted in 1996; it is found in State Official Gazette Resolution No. 115 of that year. Described as: "In a silver shield on a green shield base, a green apple tree with seven red and gold fruits, in front of it a red fence." It is a canting arms; the apple tree behind a fence is a representation of its name ("tree garden"). The fence and color silver correspond to the coat of arm of Ulrich von Grafeneck, a historically important landowner who expanded Baumgarten Castle. The apples in red and yellow correspond to the state colors. Banner adoption date unknown; it uses the colors: red and green.

The coat of arms is based on the previously used municipal seals with the canting symbol "deciduous tree in the garden" from 1774, 1850, 1876, 1902, 1929 and 1991.
The apple tree was chosen because a "deciduous tree in the garden" suggests a cultivated plant, a fruit tree. According to the 1938 fruit tree census, there were 7227 fruit trees in Baumgarten, including 1214 apple trees. The seven red and gold apples on the tree are meant to symbolize the fertility of Baumgarten's soil. Like the apple tree, the fence stands at the base of the shield and has four pointed slats on either side of the trunk. These points are meant to represent the former fortifications of the village. The medieval Baumgarten Castle (documented in 1289, 1342, 1392, 1412, 1446, and 1475) was located near the parish church in what is now the district of Šapac – Croatian for "fortress" or "castle".
Colours/metals: No colors can be derived from the surviving municipal seals. For obvious reasons, the color green was chosen for the apple tree and the base of the shield. The silver background and the color red for the fence were taken from the coat of arms of one of Baumgarten's most important landowners, Ulrich von Grafeneck. The red and gold apples on the tree correspond to the state colors of Burgenland. Unsurprisingly, the colors of the municipality of Baumgarten are red and green.
Name: The place likely originated in a field called "tree garden" (earliest mentioning: Pungarth, 1267–1269). The German place name was assimilated as Pajngrt by the Croatians who immigrated and settled there between 1526 and 1528. In 1898, Baumgarten was officially given the Hungarian name Sopronkertes ("Garden near Sopron/Ödenburg") or Kertes. Since 17 July 2000, Baumgarten has had bilingual place-name signs: Baumgarten – Pajngrt.
