The flag was designed by resorting to the symbols of our past.
The
white cross stands on a field of red: these two colours are by far the most
common in the history of our country.
The particular shape of the cross is taken from the first flag of Milan, known
from San Galdino della Sala, the archbishop of Milan in 1167.
The
red edge is found in heraldry and highlights our roots so deep that comes from
the Middle Ages.
The
square area, and the tails are a colorful medieval flavour: the tails are six in
number and repeat the tri-color blue-yellow-red, to include governmental
entities, protagonists of other colors such as Venice (yellow-red-blue) Verona (
blue-yellow) Bergamo (yellow-red) and Turin (blue-yellow).

Bandiere Storiche ("Historical Flags") is a cultural non-profit organization,
established in April 2008 with the aim to bring out, through the colors of the
flag and coat of arms, a world of forgotten values.
The flag is a symbol full of meaning with immediacy that expresses a message, a
story, a people.
One
of the aims of our association is to disseminate an educational alternative for
children and adults to rediscover their roots, enriching the story with legends
and curiosities.
Knowing the past is to live with more awareness of the present.
Our
activities are numerous and intend to involve citizens and institutions in order
to create moments of aggregation, integration and growth.
In
addition to creating art laboratories and teaching lessons (schools, colleges
and universities of the third age), Bandiere Storiche deals with the
organization of guided tours of cities and monuments, museums, events,
exhibitions, conferences and international projects in Europe.
In
2011 we became members of CISV (Italian Centre for
Studies Vessillologici) and 2013 members FIAV (Fédération
Internationale des Associations Vexillologiques) where we have been
internationally recognized for our activities in the area.
