The Town of Chapmanville (1,211 inhabitants, 1,800 ha), located deep in the

Virginia in 1947.

The flag of Chapmanville West Virginia, was revealed in July 2022 during the
town's 75th anniversary celebration. How the flag was designed and adopted was
stated on this post by Councilwoman Robin Adams Mutters on the town's Facebook
page:
https://www.facebook.com/townofchapmanville/posts
"The winner of The
Town of Chapmanville Flag contest that was hosted by The Chapmanville
Beautification Committee and The Town of Chapmanville was Harlea Abraham. Harlea
was awarded $400.00 (donated by Ralph Rodighiera) and the first flag. We would
like to thank everyone that took the time to submit a design. All the designs
were amazing and we may ask for your permission to use it at a later date. The
designs were taken to the town council meeting to be voted on, the council, town
recorder and mayor choose the winner, I abstained from voting because I knew who
each design belonged to and didn’t want anyone to think that I was biased. We
have some of the most talented people and we are so proud of each one of you and
we appreciate everyone that participated."

This flag is indeed the flag of Chapmanville High School, and in particular of its athletic teams. It is what is generally known as a 'Spirit Flag', designed to whip up school spirit before football and basketball games, when it
is waved at pep rallies. It is not unusual for small towns to adopt their school flags, especially these 'spirit flags', as municipal flags, especially if the local high school has won some sort of state or regional championships in the previous few years.
