According to the Reno Gazette-Journal of January 28, 1964, the first flag of
Humboldt County was adopted in 1964 as part of the Nevada Centennial
celebrations. The flag was chosen by the county commissioners, the winning
design being created by Tommy Fong. He received $25 for designing this flag.
It has three stripes in brown-yellow-brown, the center zigzagged. The yellow
section represents the yellow, muddy Humboldt River. The design in the center
depicts a wagon wheel for the pioneers, scrolls for Humboldt and the Territory
of Nevada, recognizing how Humboldt is the oldest of the current Nevada
counties. An image of Chief Winnemucca is depicted over a gold and silver star.
Likely adopted on January 27, 1964; if not, then certainly around this week.
