From the Ela Township News:
"After 163 years Ela Township has an official
Township flag. We held a contest for the best design of a flag representing our
form of government which is closest to the people. We had many worthy
applications submitted and the board voted on one. Our winner received a $400
dollar gift certificate to the Apple store. Our winner was eleven year old,
Olivia Hosen of Hawthorn Woods. The rendering of her flag explained her
understanding of Ela Township. The seven stars on her flag represent the seven
villages in Ela Township. The red, white and blue stripes stand for the colors
on the flag that represents our country. The circular position of the seven
stars shows that this Township works together to provide leadership and
coordination to help develop a community dedicated to maintaining and improving
the quality of life in Ela Township. Thank you Olivia as you managed to say it
all."
Flag adopted in fall of 2013.
