It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain  field quartered of yellow and blue.

Shield Or, in base a gatehouse issuant Azure masoned Sable and crowned by an embattled turret of the same flnked by three inescutcheons topped by coronets and ordered 1:2. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll readinfg in black initials: 
 "MONSARAZ". 
Meaning:
The inescutcheons are displaying the 2nd arms of the House of Bragança.

Monsaraz Commune is one of the four communes of Reguengos de Monsaraz Municipality (q.v.); it had 781 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 88.24 km².
